Zola Jesus performed at Converse’s Rubber Tracks Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn this afternoon, ahead of her CMJ showcase next door at The Knitting Factory tonight. The Rubber Tracks studio just recently opened, and is a space for musicians to record, rehearse and perform. There was lots of Shepard Fairey “obey” graffiti around, as well as a wall of Converse sneakers, and a giant image of the iconic shoe printed near the entrance of the space.
The petite Zola Jesus, who graces the latest issue of The Fader, was wearing a lilac tissue-like dress under a matching geometric leather jacket. She performed a short set previewing new material from her latest album Conatus, including “Vessel” and “In Your Nature.” She also played “Night” from her sophomore album, Stridulum. Her powerful voice really enveloped the entire room in the intimate space. It was the perfect setting to see her artistry up close. Watch her perform “Night” below.
