The 10th annual Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love kicks off next week in Marfa, Texas. Hosted at the enchanting El Cosmico campgrounds, the festival features music, workshops, art installations and more.
Performing this year are a number of folk-rock favorites including Jenny Lewis, Ben Kweller, Phosphorescent, Langhorne Slim, and Portugal. The Man to name a few.
Marfa attracts a small community of artists and creatives who call this picturesque town home. It’s most iconic building is the Prada Marfa installation by artists Elmgreen and Dragset. Sculptor Donald Judd also called Marfa home and his artistry helped put the town on the map.
For one weekend in late September, Marfa gets a bit more crowded as music lovers travel to town in search of wide open spaces, cosmic lights, and intoxicating sounds.
I’ll be hitting the road next week to cover this year’s Trans-Peco Festival (stay tuned for photos and a recap). To prepare for my trip I’ve created a Marfa Sounds playlist. Featuring songs perfect for the open road, including selections from the Trans-Pecos 2015 lineup, may it accompany you on your next trip to Marfa or wherever the wind takes you.
See you on the road.
