Tongue-Tied Over Ryn Weaver’s “Octahate”

Who’s that girl? That’s the question on everyone’s lips since Ryn Weaver exploded onto the scene with her debut single “OctaHate”, which has already racked up over 1 million streams on SoundCloud.

Weaver seemingly came out of nowhere with a sound as big as her team. While you may not be familiar with the bi-coastal singer just yet, you definitely know the formidable crew that produced her mega debut single: Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos, Charli XCX, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat. Impressive right?

Everything came together after Weaver had a chance encounter with Blanco and the rest, as they say, is history.

Having friends in high places certainly has benefits. Passion Pit, Charli XCX, Jessie Ware and others tweeted their support for Weaver when she officially debuted the striking pop ballad, generating serious traction. Her raw talent however, has sustained the growing frenzy surrounding the single.

“Octahate” starts off cool and crisp with Weaver snapping her fingers and counting”one, two” before unleashing her powerful, undulating voice. “I can’t take it / from the day I saw my heart start breaking / no one saved me”, sings Weaver on this song for the lovelorn.

Powerful female vocalists seem to be having a moment right now, with ladies like Jessie Ware, FKA Twigs, Meg Mac, and now Ryn Weaver, causing a big stir.

Forget those boys of summer, this season it’s all about the girls.

No word yet on what’s next for Ms. Weaver, but rumor has it a debut album is in the works via her label Friends Keep Secrets.
