Thrupence is the brain child of 23(!) year old Jack Vanzet, a talented art director, music producer and visual artist out of Melbourne, Australia. Oh, and he’s also got his own record label with Chet Faker called Detail Co.
Yeah, Vanzet’s pretty ahead of the game.
The wunderkind recently released the disco-meets-soul mashup, “Don’t You Mind”. The track starts off with some old school beats followed by a vocal sample of “Grinnin’ In Your Face” by blues singer Son House who rose to prominence in the 1960’s.
Bear this in mind, a true friend is hard to find
Don’t you mind people grinnin’ in your face
Son House’s words of wisdom repeat, echo and fade as Thrupence fills in the track with warm, ambient sounds.
“Don’t You Mind” is the first single from Thrupence’s mixtape Lessons, out on September 26th via Future Classic. Gon’ get it:
