Russian powerhouse Tatiana Kochkareva opened the SoundDessert showcase on Friday, March 23rd, held at east village fixture, The Bowery Electric. Backed by guitarist Kappa Tanabe and drummer Sean Hutchinson, the singer had everyone in awe of her lush, alto voice.
Ranging from uptempo rock songs to powerful ballads, Tatiana exhibited her vocal and creative range with her eclectic song choice. Early in the set, the songstress jumped into playing the driving “Downvile Town”, a song inspired by challenges she experienced while living in NYC. Proudly residing in Astoria, Queens, Tatiana recently performed “Downville Town” at the Greene Space for WNYC’s Battle of the Boroughs competition. The singer also made sure to play the empowering “Fly High”, a resounding ballad whose music video just premiered on PureVolume. Closing the set, Tatiana chose to end on a “happy note” and treated the audience to “Can’t Sleep,” a tender song appearing on the singer’s new album Infinity, out April 19th (see her play The Living Room on this day for her album release show). It’s about finding someone that you are completely and utterly content with. It was quite fitting, as Tatiana left the crowd fully satisfied and buzzing over what the rest of the night had in store.
Thanks to Tatiana Kochkareva for being a part of the showcase and for the fantastic set! See more photos here, captured by David Burlacu.
