Sound Dessert Nights July featured three badass bands: Cowboy Diplomacy, Tusk, Her, and The Cuckoos. Once again Stay Gold hosted the festivities, while Cathead Vodka provided us with drink specials. Specifically the Summer Sounds with Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka, Lime, Raw Honey Juice, and Ginger Beer. If you haven’t tried Cathead Honeysuckle vodka yet – sweet nectar of the god’s, find it and try it post-haste.
Psychedelic rockers The Cuckoos started us off with their heady dose of 60’s inspired sounds. Often drawing comparisons to The Doors, one person even said, “you didn’t tell me The Doors were playing.” Barely out of their teens, The Cuckoos can groove and bring their own style to the music. This is no cover band, in fact these young gents are sure to break on through to the other side if they keep pushing and living the dream.
Tusk, Her took the stage next. Lead singer and guitarist Amanda Salazar puts the glam in rock ‘n’ roll, with killer style and skills. To quote Beyonce, she slays. The ‘tusk’ of Tusk, Her is comprised of drummer Nathan Mellott, who adds some drama on stage performing in a tribal mask, and Nick Miller on guitar. The trio surprises and delights in the most badass ways.
Closing out the show were the fine fellows of Cowboy Diplomacy. The four-piece blends indie rock with southern soul, creating a sound that’s as raw as it is classic. Lead singer Ian Cochran’s husky vocals will make you take notice, while the band’s heartfelt delivery and passionate playing will have you sticking around for more.
Big thanks to all the bands, everyone who attended, and Breezy Ritter Photography for the snaps! See you at the next Sound Dessert showcase in August!
