Sonido Dulce

I have a feeling that the airy, sultry Sweet Electra will spark a frenzy. A little bit of everything, experimenting with house, electronic and instrumental, Sweet Electra create an indelible sound. Nardiz Cooke sings with unfettered emotion, sounding powerful yet gentle, while Giovanni Escalera is the mastermind behind much of the musical compositions. Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, the group now resides in good old Brooklyn. Sweet Electra already have a reputation back home, considered to be one of the coolest and most relevant artists to come out of Mexico.

With a CD release party for their new album, When We Abandoned Earth, scheduled at Joe’s Pub on September 11th, I’m sure the band will start to garner more ‘relevance’ in New York as well. “A Feeling,” an ambient dream, is sure to catch on. Float off into space and detach yourself from the world as you sail along the quixotic ballad. Or imagine yourself in a Mexico dischoteque as you become immersed in the sounds of “Te Fuiste.” (“Love You More” is also a goody)

Don’t be surprised if you get hooked.
