Sarah Jaffe is a force. A powerful voice, presence and look make her utterly captivating and intriguing. On her sophomore album The Body Wins, Jaffe delivers smoldering, bluesy numbers (“Paul”, “Hooray For Love”) offset by livelier attitude-soaked tracks such as “Halfway Right” and “Glorified High.” Amping up the sound quality the second time around, Jaffe worked with producer John Congleton (St. Vincent and Wye Oak) to create a really fresh sound to the album.
On the title track, Jaffe sings about humanity’s primal desires and how, in the end, “the body always wins.” A theme that’s woven throughout the record.
