Daydreaming gets elevated on Fly Felix’s new single “Cast Your Shade.” Glittering keys, echoing vocals, and a steady bass line evoke a sense of weightlessness on the ethereal track, as Fly Felix takes listeners into the clouds.
Fly Felix is the solo project of Drew Tyler and features Travis Case on vocals. Tyler and Case collaborated on “Cast Your Shade” as a means of rising above negativity, which can weigh people down and make ‘limbs feel heavy.’
“The song’s general theme and idea was simply to shine light on such negative judgments,” says Tyler “and lift the spirits of the listeners.”
Heavy limbs like lead
I’m staying here instead
I refuse to let you in my head
Into clouds I’ll dwell

It’s clear from one listen that the electro-pop singer has a wide range of influences which includes The Beach Boys, Beck, The Shins, Radiohead, and M83.
Except to be seduced by more breathtaking sounds when Fly Felix releases his debut EP, In-Situ later this year. The singer also has plans to tour and play SXSW.
As for Tyler’s own ‘shade,’ he’s as good as 24K magic: “When I was a kid my grandma told me she could read auras (ex-hippy), and she told me mine was gold.”
