Levi’s has launched a series of “Pioneer Sessions” on their web site, releasing a series of cover songs each week by various artists. The songs chosen have had some important impact on the artist in their musical evolution and transformation. The first song introduced from the series was Nas and his version of “Hey Young World” by Slick Rick. Other artists have been Bomba Estereo, The Shins, She and Him, Colbie Calait, The Dirty Projectors and more. So far, I have been pretty impressed, and have downloaded every song to date. Nas does a great rendition of “Hey Young World” while She and Him stay true to form covering the 40’s classic “Fools Rush In.” It’s an intriguing project. The significance of the song each artist/band covers enhances the curiosity factor, taking it to a more personal and interactive level for fans. It’s a look into their creative thinking and who they are as an artist.
Stay tuned into their web site for more songs by Raphael Saadiq, Passion Pit, John Legend and The Kills!
