My Gold Mask Spill ‘Secrets’ at Sound Dessert SXSW Day Party

My Gold Mask made the pilgrimage to SXSW from their Chicago home-base, and the Sound Dessert Day Party was their first gig stop. The set was dedicated to a number of new songs from Leave Me Midnight, the band’s second full-length album released a month prior. There’s also a new face behind the mask – drummer James Andrew makes the duo now a trio. The result? A fuller live sound and freedom for lead singer Gretta Rochelle to move around on stage.

I’ve seen My Gold Mask live a few times and the evolution in stage presence and music style is evident. The new material maintains that dark electronic sound fans love, but delves deeper into songwriting that’s personal and emotional.

It was a privilege having My Gold Mask play the showcase. They had the room transfixed. Check out Leave Me Midnight if you haven’t yet, and watch them perform “Some Secrets” in the video below!
