The red-haired La Roux returns with her first single in five years. “Let Me Down Gently” follows the release of her smashing 2009 self-titled debut album which featured the irresistible dance tracks “Bulletproof”, “In For The Kill”, “Quicksand” and so many more. Those were my jams that year.
Understandably, La Roux needed some time to figure out the next step in her career before rushing into the next thing. This go around she’s restructured her sound, making the synths warmer, smokier and as La Roux puts it, “sexier”.
“Let Me Down Gently” follows in the path of her self-titled debut, as the Brit sings once again about not getting hurt by a guy.
The single is the first taste of what to expect from Trouble in Paradise, out July 7th. Judging by the whole package, it seems there may be some summer gems waiting in the wings with this one.
