As I mentioned in my Five SXSW Band Discoveries post, Hunting Club was added to the Sound Dessert day party at the last minute in place of another artist with travel complications. The Minneapolis-based band came recommended from a trusted friend and showed up completely ready to rock. Shimmering synth soundscapes and lush harmonies permeated the room as Hunting Club performed songs off their upcoming album, Mosaic. The vibe here is smooth sailing – frontman Eric Pasi was wearing boat shoes, while keyboardist Justin Steen was barefoot and wearing a shirt covered with sailboats. Then there’s drummer Kyle Steen who rocked out with not only sticks but a maraca and brush. Everyone in the room was mellowing out to this feel good music.
The travel snafu was truly a blessing in disguise because having Hunting Club on the bill, only added to the awesomeness of the show. Watch them cruisin’ on stage:
