Highlights From Nylon’s SXSW Showcase at the W Hotel – Kimbra, PAPA, Of Monsters and Men

Nylon had an ambitious lineup scheduled for their Friday afternoon SXSW showcase, held at the chic W hotel in downtown, Austin. I had my sights set on seeing the lovely Kimbra perform, someone I (and many others) am quite enamored with at the moment. The quirky Kiwi was donned in a flirty puffy pink dress that was regal-meets-80s-prom-revival. Performing with that breathtakingly powerful voice, Kimbra was quite a force on stage. As she beamed and interacted with the audience between songs, she was ever the more captivating. If you have an opportunity to see her live, do not pass it up.

Also on the bill was PAPA – a fantastic folk-rock band where the lead singer happens to be the drummer as well. With smooth, breezy harmonies and intoxicating guitar melodies, you’ll want this feel-good band’s music by your side all summer long. They’re album “A Good Woman Is Hard To Find” is out now. Be sure to check out two of my faves “Ain’t It So” and “I Am The Lion King

Of Monsters and Men
Icelandic darlings, Of Monsters and Men had everyone enamored with their passionate performance. Unfortunately some technical difficulties cut their set short to a mere three songs, but what they lacked in time, they made up for with vigor. Nanna’s gorgeous, creamy voice and Ragnar’s deep, soothing vocals are a winning combination. And then there’s the trumpet, which just puts me over the edge. So gorgeous.
Listen to “Little Talks” and bask in the live glory. SXSW all the way, baby.
