Fashion’s Night Out was a battlefield of designers, celebrities and cocktails…lots of cocktails. Combining both fashion and music as I do, I spent the night hopping around a number of boutiques catching a couple special musical performances in the process.
Starting off the night in Rockefeller center I caught a set by Savoir Adore. They are a Brooklyn band fronted by lead vocalist Deidre Muro, whose voice is so freakin pretty it makes your mouth drop slightly. Minus the wind causing some issues with their mic feed, they played a good show. Smooth, supple songs, they reminded me a bit of Stars minus the theatrics.
Next stop was SOHO hopping around shops such as Betsey Johnson, 3.1. Phillip Lam and Kate Spade. I had my eye on the Phillip Lam event since I was looking forward to seeing another duo, My Gold Mask perform. It was a shining show, with soft mood lighting to set the tone. Singer and drummer Gretta Rochelle looked wonderful in a loose-fitting gold sequin dress while guitarist Jack Armondo opted for casual, not letting Fashion’s Night Out dictate his dress.
The boutique was packed full, with a line of hopefuls trailing outside waiting to squeeze in. The duo played about a half hour set and debuted a brand new song, “I Know The Reason.” My Gold Mask are a breathy, synth aphrodisiac that lure you away from the rest of the electro pack. Be sure to check them out!
