Ólafur Arnalds – Ljósið

If you only do one thing today, make sure you set aside 3 minutes and 36 seconds to watch this video. The abstract bursts of colors are completing captivating.  I sat transfixed throughout the whole video.  It’s like watching a painting come to life.  Ólafur Arnalds is the artist responsible for the orchestral piece behind this video.  Classicly trained and hailing from Iceland, Arnalds strives to bridge the gap between classical and pop music. “The classical scene is kind of closed to people who haven’t been studying music all their lives. I would like to bring my classical influence to the people who don’t usually listen to this kind of music…open people’s minds.” And Arnalds has been doing just that, thanks to social media.

During the spring Arnalds created a seven song series, recording and releasing one song per day for seven days.  He released each song directly to fans through Twitter, and published their album artwork onto Flickr.  Intimate and interactive, people took notice, and over 70,000 copies of Arnalds Found Songs series have been downloaded to date.  An impressive feat for a budding artist in this day and age.

It’s clear Arnalds is pulling at the pop worlds heart strings.
