Indie-rockers Filligar first appeared on the Sound Dessert blog in early 2011. Since then, the Chicago-natives have amassed a huge following largely due to their constant touring in support of their acclaimed 2010 release, The Nerve.
The game changed when the Counting Crows hand-picked the boys as the opening act for their Outlaw Roadshow tour last summer.
And they love the road.
It’s a good thing because Filligar has no plans to hit the breaks anytime soon: Recently appointed cultural ambassadors by the U.S. Department of State, Filligar travels to Azerbaijan this summer for performances and workshops as part of the Arts Envoy program, which “shares the best of the U.S. arts community with the world.”
These outlaws are no longer outsiders. That’s what makes their just released single, “New Local” so fitting. Filligar’s energetic and unfiltered live shows have drawn huge crowds in every state they’ve traversed. As the boys sing on the single, “It’s been a long, long way”, but they’ve officially arrived.
“New Local” is off Filligar’s new LP, Hexagon, out July 23rd.
