Bands A Make You Dance: Smallpools And San Cisco Rouse Fans at Bowery Ballroom

LA’s Smallpools is currently on their first ever tour with Australia’s fast-rising San Cisco. Sound Dessert caught the two bands at Bowery Ballroom last week during the first leg of their North America trek.

Smallpools got the night started with their poppy feel-good jams, including “Dreaming” and “Mason Jar“, which gave way to a big dance party. The band also busted out a cover of “You Get What You Give” by the New Radicals. It was a perfect throwback song for the audience’s primary generation in attendace.

A large part of the crowd turned up that night for the headliners, San Cisco, and were unfamiliar with Smallpools. After seeing the band, a few of those people admitted to Sound Dessert of being converts. One can expect Smallpools will be converting many fans on this tour. Any band that can summon people to move pretty much has it made.

San Cisco

Once San Cisco took to the stage, things got even more energized. Their hit single “Awkward” really lent itself to a giant sing-along, while tracks like “Fred Astaire” and “Reckless” kept the house pumping. For the encore, the band had something special planned. Part of San Cisco’s rise in popularity stateside is credited to a sweet mash-up of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” with N.E.R.D.‘s “Hypnotise U”. So after a brief reprieve, the band returned on stage and started playing their cover of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” to massive cheers from the audience.

It was definitely a night “for good fun”.
